Leipzig celebrates this year with numerous concerts and other events the "Bach-Year". Johann Sebastian Bach, who has worked in Leipzig for more than 30 years, died 250 years ago. Leipzig has an interesting historical city center. Johann Wolfgang Goethe has studied at the University of Leipzig, the second oldest German university next to Heidelberg; Friedrich Schiller wrote here the "Ode an die Freude"; and composers like Felix Mendelsohn-Bartoldy or Robert Schumann lived in Leipzig for many years. You can visit the Opera or the "Gewandhaus". There are interesting galleries, museums and monuments. Numerous theaters, cabarets, restaurants and pubs invite you for a nice evening.
